India, Aug. 12 -- A woman was allegedly gang-raped by four to six men in Odisha's Cuttack district late Tuesday night while she was travelling with a male friend, police said.

The group allegedly stopped their vehicle near Sukarpada village on the Cuttack-Chandbali Road, assaulted the man and raped the woman before fleeing the spot.

Police officers in Cuttack said the woman and her friend were travelling towards Kendrapara from Bhubaneswar when they were stopped by a group of four to six men.

"The accused assaulted the friend and allegedly gangraped the woman. The group then fled the spot," superintendent of police (Cuttack rural) Vinit Agrawal said.
