New Delhi, Oct. 9 -- The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Punjab government to submit a proposal for providing adequate land for compensatory afforestation in areas where land is required by the NHAI for construction of roads.

A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana voiced its concern over reduction of forest cover in Punjab and lack of implementation of the afforestation plan.

"The State of Punjab is directed to submit a proposal re: provision of adequate land for compensatory afforestation wherever the same is required by the NHAI for construction of the subject-National Highways," it ordered.The bench also issued notice on NHAI's plea challenging several orders of Punjab and Haryana high co...
