NHAI halts toll charges over structural distress
LUCKNOW, Aug. 6 -- The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Wednesday suspended toll collections on the newly built Rs.4,200-crore Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway due to structural distress, weeks after its inauguration, officials said, adding that action against the concessionaire and officials was underway.
NHAI proposed to declare the concessionaire PNC Infratech Ltd a "non performer" and thus ineligible to participate in future NHAI tenders. Officials said complaints about damaged portions and patchwork on the 63-km expressway spurred the action. Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the expressway on July 13 in the presence of CM Yogi Adityanath.
