Ludhiana, Aug. 23 -- The food safety department on Saturday seized and destroyed around 300kg of sweets during a raid at a premises in New Gurnam Nagar on Jassian Road, following allegations that previously used sugar syrup was being procured from sweet shops and reused in the preparation of fresh batches of sweets. The department also collected three samples for laboratory analysis and issued a challan over unhygienic conditions at the premises.

The raid was conducted under the directions of civil surgeon Dr Ramandeep Kaur as part of the department's ongoing enforcement drive against food practices that could compromise public health.
