New Delhi, July 18 -- The Centre's Forest Advisory Committee has recommended stage-I forest clearance for three coal mining projects - one in Odisha and two in Chhattisgarh - involving the diversion of 1,737 hectares of forest land and the felling of nearly 389,000 trees. The bulk of the tree loss will come from Alaknanda alone, with over 330,000 trees affected. P8
