India, Feb. 10 -- The recently elected Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) members of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Monday passed a resolution proposing deputy chief minister Sunetra Pawar for the post of the party's national president.

The position became vacant following the accidental death of NCP chief and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar. While there had been speculation that senior leader Praful Patel might assume the role, the idea reportedly faced internal opposition, delaying any formal announcement.

An NCP leader in the PMC said the newly elected corporators met at the party office earlier in the day to discuss the leadership issue.
