New Delhi, Sept. 15 -- The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Monday said it is planning to upgrade its 1033 National Highway Helpline with artificial intelligence (AI), real-time location tracking and smart emergency-response systems to improve assistance to highway users. The upgraded system will use AI-assisted handling of calls in different Indian languages and identify and dispatch the most suitable ambulance, crane or patrol vehicle, NHAI said. The move comes as the 1033 helpline, introduced in 2018, covers more than 1.46 lakh km of national highways and receives around 15,000 calls every day.
