India, Oct. 19 -- Washington, DC police are investigating a shooting involving a National Guardsman in the 400 block of 8th Street SE, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said in a social media post on Monday, October 19.

The department said interim Police Chief Jeffery Carroll would speak to media outlets at the scene in about 20 minutes as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

MPD has not provided further details about the incident in its initial announcement, including the condition of the National Guardsman, whether anyone else was injured or if a suspect has been identified.
