New Delhi, Sept. 12 -- The prime accused in Madhya Pradesh's Banda spurious liquor case, Ravi Lakhera, was arrested after an encounter with police on Friday morning. Carrying a Rs.30,000 reward, Lakhera was injured in the leg during the exchange of fire and taken to hospital. He has 25 criminal cases against him.
Sagar SP Anurag Sujania said Lakhera opened fire at police at least three times after being cornered near Hanuman Tong Temple along the Banda-Barayatha road. Police recovered a country-made 12-bore pistol, cartridges, spent casings and a motorcycle. Two accomplices fled.
Police said Lakhera supplied industrial chemicals used to prepare toxic liquor. The death toll has reached 16, with 17 arrests and 13 accused absconding.
