Move to privatise Panjim's Campal sports complex sparks row
Panaji, June 29 -- A plan by the Goa government to hand over in Campal Sports Complex in Panjim to a private operator sparked row with critics who have accused the government of privatising city's few sports and recreational places built using public funds.
As per the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) representative said it was scouting for a private agency to take over the complex on a lease of 10 years to "increase the revenue for the government."
The sports complex, which includes a football ground, jogging track, children's play area, sports academy, restaurant area, parking facilities, and other public amenities, was built at the cost of Rs.30 crore under the Smart City Mission and spreads across 40,000 square metres.
