Modi, Amit Shah pay tributes to Mookerjee on 125th birth anniv
Kolkata, July 7 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday virtually joined the 125th birth anniversary celebration of Shyama Prasad Mookerjee in Kolkata and paid tributes to the Jan Sangh founder saying today's India is guided by the nationalist movement he launched before Independence.
"Dr Mookerjee gave birth to a movement. When he set up Jan Sangh, politics was controlled by the Congress. There was no space for another line of thought but Shyama Prasad Mookerjee succeeded. This was not just setting up a party but giving birth to a new nationalist ideology. An ideology grows when generations of citizens take it forward," Modi said in his speech streamed live from Indonesia.
