India, April 3 -- A man attempting to protect a woman from being allegedly sexually harassed and attacked shot dead one of the three attackers and injured the other two outside a school in Mumbra on Thursday morning.
Police intercepted the shooter, Jayan Shivanandan Nair, a 51-year-old truck driver, as he fled in a car, and seized the revolver used in the crime. They have also arrested Nair and the woman, Anwara Bibi Sheikh, housekeeping staff at the Sumantai Chavan Hindi Primary School in Kailash Nagarm.
The shooting took place after Anwara reached out to Nair and sought his help during her run-in with the trio, all daily wagers. Both Nair and Anwara have been booked for murder and the Indian Arms Act.
