India, Sept. 28 -- Mahindra has given the Thar OG a sizeable update for 2026, with changes aimed at making the SUV easier to use on and off the road. After driving it for more than 300 km around Jodhpur, three things stood out to me, along with two areas that could be better.

The biggest change is the way the Thar behaves on tarmac. Electric power steering replaces the earlier hydraulic system and makes the SUV considerably easier to manoeuvre. It also gains weight at higher speeds, which adds some confidence on the highway.

The wider 60 mm track helps here as well. Body roll has not disappeared, but the Thar feels more stable than before. I was able to take smooth highway curves at triple-digit speeds without any misbehaviour, provided...
