LUCKNOW, Aug. 21 -- The sound of the Hanuman Chalisa playing on a television inside the house, coupled with heavy traffic noise outside, may have masked the gunshots when Manas Bajpai killed his sister and himself at his residence at Husadiya crossing on Thursday, neighbours said.

Residents said they did not hear the gunshots despite multiple rounds being fired inside the house. They learnt about the incident only after seeing a WhatsApp status posted by Manas and being called by well-wishers who saw the story.

Luv Kush, who runs a restaurant from the same premises, said he was first alerted by a friend who called him after seeing the WhatsApp status.
