India, Sept. 4 -- A key moment unfolded in the Lindsay Clancy trial on Thursday as Judge William Sullivan addressed the jury on the legal standard of "proof beyond a reasonable doubt."

The standard represents the burden prosecutors must meet to secure a criminal conviction. In other words, jurors must be firmly convinced of a defendant's guilt after considering the evidence presented in court.

In Clancy's case, the question is whether prosecutors have established beyond a reasonable doubt that she was legally sane and criminally responsible when her three children were killed.
