India, Oct. 5 -- With biennial elections to five seats in the legislative council due on October 23, differences over seat-sharing have emerged within both the ruling Mahayuti and the opposition Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliances. Within the ruling camp, both the BJP and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena have staked claim over one of the seats, while in the MVA, the Congress' unilateral declaration of candidates for three of the seats has upset allies. The Congress, meanwhile, is eyeing at least two victories in the poll, so it can stake claim to the Leader of Opposition post in the upper house.
