India, April 2 -- A 22-year-old medical student in Karnataka allegedly died by suicide after facing sustained harassment from classmates over rumours linking her to a college professor, police said. The student was in the final year of her Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) at Raghavendra Ayurvedic College in Malladihalli.

According to a complaint filed by her father, Umashankar G N, a school headmaster, the deceased student had a professional and friendly rapport with a faculty member, Dr Raju, reported NDTV. However, some students allegedly began spreading rumours suggesting an inappropriate relationship between the two, which, her family claims, led to repeated taunts and social humiliation.
