K'taka DIG arrested for forging SC order to release life convict
Bengaluru, Oct. 6 -- Karnataka deputy inspector general (DIG) of prisons M Somashekar has been arrested over the use of an allegedly forged Supreme Court order to free a life convict from jail in 2018, a police officer said on Monday.
The DIG was arrested on Sunday night and produced before an ACMM court on Monday and remanded to five days in police custody, the officer said.
The matter pertains to the release of S Shankar, who walked out of Parappanna Agrahara Central Prison on November 13, 2018, after officials received a document purportedly ordering his release from the Supreme Court. Shankar had been serving a life sentence in a murder and kidnapping for ransom case, Parappana Agrahara police inspector Naveen Kumar said.
