New Delhi, July 15 -- India's wholesale inflation, measured by the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), edged up to 9.87% in June from 9.74% in May, according to data released by the commerce and industry ministry on Tuesday. This was the highest reading under the new WPI series, for which inflation data is available from April 2024. While the acceleration in WPI inflation in June was driven by primary articles, inflation in the fuel and power category eased compared with May. However, fuel inflation remained much higher than that of primary articles. This suggests that the West Asia crisis continued to drive WPI inflation, even as its impact eased compared with May.
