India, Sept. 30 -- Japan has just crossed a land-mark. Accord-ing to stat-ist-ics from the coun-try's Health and Wel-fare Min-istry, the nation is now home to 1,07,677 cen-ten-ari-ans (people aged 100 or older), exceed-ing the 1,00,000 mark for the first time in recor-ded his-tory, with women mak-ing up nearly 88% of the total.
Fuyo Kishimoto from Kyoto, at 114, is the old-est liv-ing woman in the coun-try, and 112-year-old Hikaru Kato from Kum-amoto is the old-est man.
While the world stud-ies Japan's age-ing pop-u-la-tion, health experts point to something sim-pler: every-day habits that may quietly help people live past 100.
