New Delhi, Aug. 21 -- A boy, aged around eight years, is feared to have drowned after he allegedly fell into a drain near Jafrabad Metro station on Thursday afternoon, fire department and police officials said. Rescue operation continued but the child could not be rescued till Thursday evening. Deputy commissioner of police (northeast) Rahul Alwal said that a passerby called the Welcome police station about an unidentified child drowning in the drain at around 1.15pm. When police reached the spot, the caller told them the child -- around 8-10 years old -- fell in the drain and was not visible.
