India, May 24 -- The government on Sunday issued an advisory for Indians after the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the Ebola outbreak a public health emergency. In a key advisory, the Indian government said that countries bordering the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, including South Sudan, are assessed to be "at high risk of disease transmission", and urged citizens to avoid non-essential travel there.

On May 17, the WHO declared the Ebola outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), but clarified that it did not meet the criteria for a pandemic emergency. In its announcement, the global health body had also identified countries bordering DR Congo to be at high risk.
