India in talks with nations to secure fertiliser supply
New Delhi, March 20 -- India is in talks with several countries to secure fertilisers, both from traditional and new suppliers, as it seeks to diversify imports amid a gas crunch triggered by the West Asian conflict. The conflict has curtailed domestic urea output, the most-used crop nutrient.
Efforts are underway to tap emerging suppliers such as Indonesia, along with non-West Asian producers including Egypt and Russia, apart from enquiries with Chinese authorities, a person familiar with the development said.
Indian missions abroad are coordinating with counterparts to ramp up supplies ahead of the summer planting season beginning in June, which accounts for half the country's annual food output.
