New Delhi, Sept. 25 -- Military surgeons performed 220 sight-restoring surgeries for the first time at an underground operating theatre near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir under Operation Drishti, the defence ministry said on Friday.

The two-day eye camp, visited by Army chief General Dhiraj Seth, was held in Kupwara's Tangdhar area, a shelling-prone zone, it said.

The camp was led by Brigadier Sanjay Mishra, head of ophthalmology at the Army Hospital (Research & Referral) in Delhi Cantonment. His team carried advanced phacoemulsification, vitreoretinal and glaucoma equipment across the mountainous terrain.
