New Delhi, April 20 -- After a brief rain-led relief from the heat, mercury soared again, crossing 40 degrees Celsius (degC) on Sunday even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued the season's first yellow alert for heatwave conditions in isolated pockets of the city between Wednesday and Friday. Safdarjung, Delhi's base station, logged a maximum of 40.1degC on Sunday - three degrees above normal - while the hottest location across the city was the Ridge station, where it touched 41.8degC.
