MUMBAI, Sept. 25 -- The parents of an IIT-Bombay student, who allegedly died by suicide last week, began an indefinite hunger strike at the Azad Maidan in Mumbai on Thursday evening after meeting the chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC). The student's parents initially planned to stage their protest at IIT-B's main gate. However, police stopped them five kilometre away from the campus.
Separately, the institute deferred the mid-semester examinations scheduled for September 26 to October 11, amid protests over the 22-year-old student's suspected suicide, an official said on Thursday. P10
