India, Aug. 31 -- The massive flash floods that swept through Nepal and Tibet last week were caused by an ice-rock avalanche. As per a preliminary report commissioned by the Nepal Environment Society, scientists have stated that the floods were instead caused by glacier mass wasting.

The report, which was released on Sunday, adds that satellite images show no evidence for a glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF), which was initially labelled as the reason for the flash floods.

As the Himalayan nation continues to reel from the aftermath of last week's flash floods, the death toll has now crossed the 900 mark, while over 3,000, including many Indians, still remain missing.
