Helping patient leaves Kanpur man dead in Aadhaar records
Kanpur, Feb. 24 -- An act of kindness is what killed 32-year-old autorickshaw driver Gaurav Sahu -- at least on paper.
Sahu, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur, discovered this on January 7 when he went to collect the monthly rations for his family of six, only to be denied by the public distribution shop (PDS). According to the system, he was dead.
"I was told I wouldn't get any rations because I am no longer alive. I went numb and argued with the PDS shop owner - told him I am standing right in front of you. He said, 'on paper, you are dead'," Sahu said.
