HC tells Beco to pull ads targeting HUL
New Delhi, Sept. 11 -- The Delhi High Court on Thursday ordered home-care brand Beco to take down its "WarOnWhatsHidden" campaign within a week, holding that it crossed the line of "permissible comparative advertising" by claiming that Hindustan Unilever Limited's (HUL) products Surf Excel and Vim contain chemicals capable of causing skin irritation and allergic reactions.
A bench of Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani observed that the campaign, when viewed collectively and holistically, went beyond mere comparative advertising that sought to portray Beco's products as superior to those of HUL.
