New Delhi, April 8 -- The Kerala high court on Tuesday heard a petition against the recent Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Act 2026 and asked the Centre whether the newly passed legislation impacts hormone replacement therapy (HRT), a common medical procedure transpersons choose to undergo as part of their gender affirmation transition. Two transgender persons have moved the Kerala HC challenging the new law after a hospital reportedly stopped their HRT treatment citing the amended law. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas who was hearing the petitions sought clarity from Additional Solicitor General P Sreekumar whether the change in law affected those undergoing HRT.
