HC questions Meta's plea against CCPA
New Delhi, March 19 -- The Delhi High Court on Wednesday questioned Meta Platforms' decision to directly challenge a Rs.10 lakh penalty imposed by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), asking why the company did not approach the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC), the statutory appellate body.
A bench of Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav said the issue appeared to concern the alleged wrongful exercise of jurisdiction by the CCPA, something that could be examined by the NCDRC. "Why can this not be considered by the NCDRC? It's a question of jurisdiction. I'm not saying this court lacks jurisdiction, but we must consider whether to entertain it," the bench observed.
