Hauz Rani fire: 'Staff never shared guest list, no mandate to check'
India, June 5 -- Flourish Stay bed-and-breakfast (B&B) facility in south Delhi's Hauz Rani, where a massive fire claimed at least 21 lives on Wednesday morning, neither shared any fortnightly record of its guests with the police, as required under the B&B policy, nor did the police demand it, stating rules don't mandate them, according to senior officers.
"This facility did not share any such records with us. We are not mandated to check them either. We cannot penalise them if they don't share them," an officer, who did not wish to be named, said.
But Rajan Bhagat, a retired IPS officer who had served as deputy commissioner of police, said though police are not "mandated" to take action, they have the power to flag issues to the concern...
