India, July 22 -- Punjab is not reaping the demographic dividend of its working population mainly due to the lack of a comprehensive employment policy. In Punjab, persons in the working-age population (15-59 years) constitute 69.3% of the total population against the national average of 66.4%, reveals the Sample Registration System Statistical Report-2024.
The report also indicates that the window of demographic advantage will close soon due to the lower share of children and higher share of the elderly population in Punjab compared to the national average.
