Govt paves way for elections in 4 north Bengal civic bodies
Siliguri, May 20 -- The state government has placed sub-divisional officers (SDOs) in charge of four civic bodies in north Bengal, paving way for elections after four years, officials said.
"The state government issued an order on Monday, replacing the nominated boards of administrators with SDOs with immediate effect. This means civic polls would be held in a few months," an administrative officer said.
The civil bodies - Kalimpong, Kurseong and Buniadur municipalities and Mirik Notified Area Authority - had been functioning without elected boards since May 2022.
