India, Aug. 19 -- The ministry of civil aviation is likely to increase random drug testing for flight crews from 10 per cent to more than 25 per cent, sources said.

Drug testing for flight crews drew more focus recently after the pilot of a Phuket-Delhi Air India flight, which faced heavy turbulence, tested positive for marijuana, a psychoactive substance.

Last week, people familiar with the matter said that Air India and Air India Express will begin screening of all their pilots for psychoactive substances, even as the Centre was planning to amend rules to enforce stricter action against pilots testing positive for drugs.
