India, March 27 -- The government of India has cut the special additional excise duties on diesel and petrol to Rs.18.5 per litre and zero, respectively, according to a government order dated Thursday.

The notification, which comes amid spply disrupt states that for motor spirit (petrol), the rate has been set at "Nil", while for high-speed diesel oil, the duty is "Rs. 18.5 per litre".

Diesel will attract a duty of Rs.18.5 per litre in one category. Another amendment fixes an additional excise duty of Rs.3 per litre on diesel under a different schedule.

The changes were notified through amendments to central excise rules and duty structures, which "shall come into force with immediate effect," as per the Gazette notification.
