Global wildlife population fell 73% in 52 years: WWF report
New Delhi, Oct. 8 -- There has been a 73% decline in the average size of monitored wildlife populations over a 52-year period (1970- 2022), WWF's Living Planet Report (LPR) 2026 has found. The biennial report noted the strongest decline is in freshwater ecosystems (-85%), followed by terrestrial (-69%) and then marine life (-59%), expressing hope at the same time that nature can recover if society follows clear pathways to trigger positive tipping points across energy, food and finance systems which are driving biodiversity loss.
