India, May 13 -- The global demand for electric vehicles increased for a second straight month in April 2026 as high petrol prices kept steering passenger vehicle buyers away from internal combustion engine-powered cars, revealed data published by Benchmark Mineral Intelligence (BMI). According to the consultancy firm, registrations of new battery-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles grew by 6% from a year earlier to 1.6 million in April this year. However, the data also revealed that sales declined in April by 9% as compared to what was registered in March 2026.
