India, April 30 -- Tamil Nadu has been governed by several iconic figures from both the Dravidian parties and the Indian National Congress. Since 1947, the role of the Chief Minister has evolved from leading the Madras Presidency to the state of Tamil Nadu, officially renamed in 1969.
