Four foot overbridges at Masjid, Matunga stations to remain shut during Ganeshotsav
India, Sept. 13 -- Ahead of the 12-day Ganpati festival, when passenger and pedestrian movement across Mumbai is expected to rise significantly, the Central Railway (CR) will close four foot overbridges (FOBs) at Masjid and Matunga stations after structural audits by the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) found them unsafe and recommended their immediate closure to pedestrian traffic.
The closures have been ordered as a precautionary measure to prevent accidents during the festival, a Central Railway spokesperson said on Saturday.
The decision follows a request from the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), which communicated with the CR regarding the closure of the bridges for reconstruction.
