FMGs protest over stalled internships
New Delhi, May 5 -- Several foreign medical graduate (FMG) students on Monday protested outside the Delhi Medical Council (DMC) office in east Delhi, claiming their compulsory internships - required to appear for NEET PG exam or even start any medical practice in India- have been stalled for nearly a month. Some of the protesting FMGs told HT that officials from department had cited a lack of funds to pay stipends as a key constraint.
The protest comes after a communication from the National Medical Commission (NMC) earlier this month, seen by HT, said that stipends are mandatory for all interns, including FMGs.
"We had requested them to delay the stipend or not give it to us, but at least don't stall our internship as it will ruin our care...
