Disabled, transgenders largely left out in FY26
New Delhi, May 18 -- Nearly seven in 10 registered disabled workers and more than nine in 10 registered transgender workers received no employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in FY 2025-26, according to a yearly report from the ministry of rural development (MoRD).
Of 1,384,964 registered disabled workers, 427,201 - or 30.8% - received employment during the year. For transgender workers, 829 of 15,176 registered (5.46%) got work. The data covers 28 states and six Union Territories.
West Bengal recorded the largest absolute gap with the state generating zero persondays of employment during the year out of 196,254 registered disabled workers.
