Delhi HC lawyers strike work over pecuniary issue
New Delhi, May 26 -- The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) on Monday abstained from work in protest against the high court taking cognisance of a proposal to raise the pecuniary jurisdiction of district courts from Rs.2 crore to Rs.20 crore.
The strike drew mixed reactions from the bench and the bar. Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav termed abstaining from court work "improper" and said grievances should be raised before the appropriate forum. The remarks came after proxy counsels informed the court that the DHCBA was on strike. The judge also questioned how lawyers could appear without instructions.
