Cong MLA disqualified in MP after conviction
Bhopal, April 4 -- The Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly has cancelled the membership of Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti following his conviction in a 25-year-old cheating case, officials said on Friday. The development has triggered a political row with the Congress alleging "midnight" action to weaken the opposition ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections.
The assembly secretariat issued an order on Thursday night disqualifying Bharti with effect from April 2, when a Delhi court sentenced him for three years and imposed a fine of Rs.1 lakh in a cheating case involving the forging of bank records.
