Climate-smart, gender-intentional credit design critical for women's business resilience
India, June 20 -- India is home to 22 million women-owned micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), projected to rise to 30 million by 2030. These enterprises span farming, food processing, tailoring, handicrafts, and home-based manufacturing, and operate largely in informal and rural markets. About 85-90% of women-owned enterprises remain nano or micro in scale. Additionally, women entrepreneurs run their businesses alongside caregiving, farm work, and household responsibilities; this "time poverty" - the chronic shortage of discretionary time due to unpaid care work - is a significant constraint in their ability to access finance, build networks, adopt technology, and scale their businesses.
