India, Sept. 28 -- A Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) activist has alleged that the Assam police did not provide food to the detained volunteers for 24 hours.

This comes as several CJP volunteers were detained in Guwahati on Sunday on their way to the venue of the party's first volunteers' meet.

Those detained included the pressure group's National Co-Convenor Ashutosh Ranka, East and North-East In-charge Ankit Bhardwaj, Joint Secretary Premakash Golu, and Assam Coordinator Sahil.

"It was illegal detention... The police did not even provide us with food. Who can survive on just one banana for 24 hours? There were 32 of us. Everyone has been released," CJP leader Anam told news agency PTI after being released along with other detainees.
