India, Aug. 5 -- The Supreme Court on Tuesday observed that authorities should respond to student protests with restraint and caution, saying that using force to prevent violence could end up making the situation worse.

The remarks were made by a bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant while hearing a petition seeking action against the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).

The plea accused the party of being responsible for the recent violence during CJP-led protests in Delhi and several other parts of the country, including incidents of alleged stone-pelting.
