India, Oct. 2 -- Legal representatives for Tennessee death row inmate Christa Pike confirmed on Thursday that she remains in critical condition and is receiving emergency medical intervention following her unsuccessful execution attempt.

Pike was transferred to a medical facility Wednesday evening after Tennessee terminated her execution procedure when two consecutive applications of its lethal injection protocol proved ineffective. Witnesses from the media present at the execution were instructed to vacate the premises while Pike could still be heard "snoring."

Pike, 50, was ready to become the first woman executed in Tennessee in approximately 200 years in connection with the homicide of her former classmate, Colleen Slemmer.
