New Delhi, Aug. 4 -- The Centre has already released a little more than a fifth of the Rs.2 lakh crore budgeted for 50-year interest free loans to states and union territories to boost capital investments in 2026-27 and directed them to prioritise projects that can be completed in the current financial year, officials familiar with the matter said. The budget this year raised the allocation for the scheme -- the special assistance to states for capital investment (SASCI) - by over 33% to Rs.2 lakh crore because of enthusiastic response from states and UTs, they added, asking not to be named.
