LUCKNOW, March 31 -- In a significant ruling against illegal wildlife trade, a CBI court in Lucknow has convicted six people in a long-standing case involving the illegal possession and trade of tiger and leopard body parts. Each of the convicts has been sentenced to two years in prison and fined Rs.10,000, according to senior police officials on Tuesday.

The verdict was delivered on Monday, nearly 26 years after the case was first registered, highlighting the gravity of the organised wildlife trafficking network that had been investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The convicted individuals have been identified as Mumtaz Ahmad, Zaibun Nisha, Ajij Ullah, Waheed, Sartaj and Majeed.
